Citation:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. When the company was suddenly pinned down by a hail of extremely accurate enemy fire and was quickly separated from the remainder of the battalion by over 500 meters of open and fire-swept ground, and casualties mounted rapidly, Lt. Barnum quickly made a hazardous reconnaissance of the area, seeking targets for his artillery. Finding the rifle company commander mortally wounded and the radio operator killed, he, with complete disregard for his safety, gave aid to the dying commander, then removed the radio from the dead operator and strapped it to himself. He immediately assumed command of the rifle company, and moving at once into the midst of the heavy fire, rallying and giving encouragement to all units, reorganized them to replace the loss of key personnel and led their attack on enemy positions from which deadly fire continued to come. His sound and swift decisions and his obvious calm served to stabilize the badly decimated units and his gallant example as he stood exposed repeatedly to point out targets served as an inspiration to all. Provided with 2 armed helicopters, he moved fearlessly through enemy fire to control the air attack against the firmly entrenched enemy while skillfully directing 1 platoon in a successful counterattack on the key enemy positions. Having thus cleared a small area, he requested and directed the landing of 2 transport helicopters for the evacuation of the dead and wounded. He then assisted in the mopping up and final seizure of the battalion's objective. His gallant initiative and heroic conduct reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the U.S. Naval Service.
Thank you Harcey C. Barnum for your beliefs and courage to stand up and become a leader of a Batallion which only certain amount of people are good enough to do it. I also want to thank you for standing up for your beliefs and serving your country. Thanks for your motivation towars others who were giving up their hopes on keeping the battle going. The courage you took of exposing all the fire and bombs and yet keeping everything in a stable situation where you took victory. America wouldn't be the same without you. You made History, Thanks! :D

quote

With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

This was important to the people back then because they all believed that they were going to be free one day. Therefore they all stayed together and did everything together because they all had the same future.

This quote is important to me because if we all stick together we will have a better percentage of getting what we plan for eachother. Also because if I plan something I will stick to it no matter what and I will try to get what i want.

AN AMERICAN DREAM

I asked my mom what her American Dream was. My mom's dream was for her to finish school and become something in life. Obviously that was her first dream. Things didn't come out the way she planned them. She was born here but raised in Mexico. When she came to the united states she didn't know how to speak english. She struggled in school alot but still managed to go through it. My grandpa (her father) was very strict. he didn't let her go out with her friends or go to school parties. When my mom met my father she was about 15 or 16, she decided to run away from home and go live with my dad. Soon after she got pregnant. She didnt want to get pregnant but she knew what she was getting herself into. She was 16 when she got pregnant and still kept going to school. Than she had me and still went back to school. She got beat up by some african american girls and she dropped out. After that my mom's dream was to get a good job and for her kids to get a better future than hers. She struggled alot because she had to experience 2 divorces but she still managed to keep us going. She has made many mistakes in her life and she has betrayed her children but she's sorry for all that. All she wants is a better future for all of her 3kids and she doesnt want us to end up the way she did. She isnt asking for much. Just for her childrens future to be better than hers. =d

immigrants should stay

Many people have different opinions about the illegal immigrants issue. Illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay. It would cost the United States a lot of money to kick everyone out. According to the ecomony right now, it would not be a good moment to do it, the economy will not be able to support this. why loose all that money just for kicking out people that actually work for our economy too.

There are alot of illegal immigrants in the U.S right now. Most of them have a long time here already why kick them out now? Families are being separated, it would be sad to be far away from your loved ones. Immigrants bring amazing talents to share with us. They are hard workers and just want to offer a better life for their family. They have to go through a lot. They pay the same things everyone else pays for, they pay for the gas, food, electricity. They are like any of us here.

Therefore, immigrants should be allowed to stay. They are not here to hurt anyone, if they get jobs that americans say are theirs it just means they do it better. They also pay taxes without claiming them. Where does all that money go to? They are all humans and therefore should be treat equally. They also help us and they get the harder and heavier jobs that still need to get done. And they all do it to get money and most of their money goes to their families in mexico. They're not bad peple, they're just here for a better life. That's why they should stay here and keep being hardworkers!
